Behind the brand

In 2001 after a series of short-lived headaches, an MRI discovered an “unusual spot” on my brain. After determining there was no immediate cause for concern the doctors decided they would monitor me with yearly scans.

In September of 2010 after struggling with chronic back pain my wife, Lori received a diagnosis of Stage 4 lung cancer. A scan revealed that the primary lung cancer had spread to her spine, as well as other places. Stunned by this diagnosis, Lori began chemo and radiation immediately.

In October 2011, another MRI revealed that there was a slight change in the spot on my brain.  After doing extensive research, I discovered a surgeon who was a pioneer in awake brain surgery and decided to have my tumor removed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In January of 2012, I had surgery to remove the Grade II Astrocytoma in my parietal lobe. The surgery was successful and fortunately, I did not have to undergo chemo or radiation. However, this was not the case for my wife, Lori who was routinely undergoing treatments.

In October of 2015, after five hard years of fighting stage 4 cancer, Lori passed away. Even in the midst of her courageous fight, Lori inspired so many people with her faith in God, her strength, her positive attitude and her beautiful smile. After Lori passed away, I discovered several cancer t-shirts in her closet, and decided that I wanted to create a product that did not scream CANCER. A brand that would offer a stylish, modern design and that would bring awareness to the financial struggles that a cancer diagnosis can bring. I had heard a statistic from the American Cancer Society that 1 out of 3 people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime…1outof3 was born.

I remarried in December of 2017.  Together, my wife, Jodi and I are working hard to provide a high quality product that you or someone you know would be proud to wear. With your purchase today 1outof3 will donate one out of every three dollars of profit to an organization called Family Reach https://familyreach.org. Family Reach is a financial lifeline for families fighting cancer.
